Unfortunately, it really wasn’t our weekend on the Island!
During Friday’s two practice sessions the car didn’t’ feel quite right and I didn’t get many laps in. The crew managed to fix the issues overnight and we were hopeful going into Saturday.
However, come qualifying on Saturday my session was cut short again due to a bracket damaging the front splitter which put a hole in it. I knew come race 1, I was going to have to keep my head down and charge hard, starting from the back of the pack.
The Kelly Racing team managed to sort out the splitter ahead of the race. I got a relatively good start, before a Safety Car brought us all together mid-session. After the light went green, I felt the brakes shudder as I was attempting to break into each corner. I was brought into the pits due to my brakes failing, ultimately ending my race and I ended up finishing with a DNF.
Sunday I was looking to redeem myself after Saturday didn’t go to plan. We had two back to back races. Race 2 we unfortunately had another brake failure, the team got onto the issue pretty quick and managed to get me back out for the remainder of the race and I finished up P12.
The final race I started from the rear of the grid, however managed to make up a few positions at the start of the race and had a good clean race, where I finished up 14th. It was just unfortunate we couldn’t get the car right and therefore didn’t get a whole lot of laps in throughout the weekend.
Here’s hoping we can have a better round in Adelaide at The Bend Motorsport Park, 12 – 14 July.
A big thank you to all my supporters and sponsors, Dare Iced Coffee and Flair Dancewear. Also, a big thanks to Kelly Racing for all their hard work over the weekend.
