Chelsea Angelo – TCR Australia Pre Phillip-Island Preview

I am so pumped to be back in my Dare Iced Coffee Holden Astra this weekend for round 2 of the TCR Australia Series at Phillip Island!

I’ve had a lot of track experience at Phillip Island. I’m feeling quietly confident going into the weekend knowing that I have been here lots of times and done a lot of miles around this track.

We came away from Sydney with a positive outcome, so I’m hoping we can continue the successful streak and have some great results this weekend. The crew at Kelly Racing have done an amazing job prepping the car and I can’t wait to get back out there and test the car at a new track.

This weekend I’m really focussed on having a good consistent weekend and moving up as far as I can on the grid, whilst ensuring that I am the best prepped racer that I can be. Having that frame of mind will help my nerves and expectations going into the round. There is still a lot to learn with the FWD car. It’s a new track for these cars, so I am excited to see how they will go. After round one, I have a clearer idea and better understanding as to how the car will handle in the long races ahead.

It has been a lot of fun learning a new car and for me, the biggest thing that I have learnt in the car is getting the rear tyres up to temperature. I found in Sydney my biggest struggle was trying to find the right balance between all of the tyres to ensure I had a solid qualifying lap. Knowing how the tyres react to a high fast flowing track like Phillip Island will help boost my confidence.

It has been so much fun working with Kelly Racing so far. They have a lot of experience in the motorsport industry. All of their expertise and knowledge in the field has definitely helped my skill level and confidence along the way. I’m excited knowing that there is still a few rounds to go and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings.

The race format is very different for me having the back to back style format. Personally, I quite like it. It is a very quick transition with minimal time to make any setup changes. Tyre strategy also plays a big role too. It sometimes can be hard if you struggle to find a good car balance in race 2, as you don’t know which way to go setup wise. Overall, I think it’s great fun, it keeps all of us on our toes for race 2 and 3 that’s for sure!

A big thank you to my incredible sponsors, Dare Iced Coffee and Flair Dancewear. Their support has been outstanding and I’m hoping we can bring them home some positive results this weekend!
