Round 4 of the TCR Australia Championship has thrown up challenges for Kelly Racing with news that Andre Heimgartner and Chelsea Angelo will collaborate to further the development of the Holden Astra and Subaru WRX. Heimgartner’s WRX will be benched for the interim as a result of technical issues relating back to the vehicles TCR manufacturer, Top Run Motorsport in Italy.
Similarly, Angelo has faced challenges with her Dare Iced Coffee Astra. In an effort to reach the potential of the Holden, Kelly Racing have engaged a senior engineer from Lubnar Motorsport in Germany who will work alongside Heimgartner and Angelo, with Heimgartner using his experience to take the wheel for the weekend.
For Angelo, the strategy behind the decision makes sense.
“We have seen enormous potential in the Astra however we have faced challenges in the first three rounds which have ultimately undermined our results. With Andre’s car facing time on the sidelines, Todd (Kelly) and I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to invite Lubnar Motorsport’s input”.
The plan offered some challenges including commercial considerations.
“Dare Iced Coffee now feature across two Kelly Racing cars and of course I’ll be there across the weekend to not only work in with the team but also represent Dare Iced Coffee” Angelo confirmed.
Round 4 of the car sales TCR Australia Series will be held at Queensland Raceway in Ipswich on August 2-4. Two practice sessions will be held on Friday, followed by qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday and two 30 minutes races on Sunday.
